Yesterday I decided to take the dive into self publishing some business cards. I thought I would use my badge making machine to my advantage.
Today I took the first step into running a retail business, my Logotype Family is now for sale from my site http://www.philkiel.com I decided to do this after I recieved a few comments from people on Behance.net asking if they could have access to the font files.
A big decision I had to make was to charge or not to charge. I visit quite a few online font shops such as hypefortype and fontfabric and both of them charge. Although sites like dafont.com have a massive community and there is a big chance for a lot of free publicity, but is it at the expense of my typeface’s quality? After much thought I decided to add a price of £10. I think I will see how popular it is and then change it accordingly. You can view the shop from here.

After seeing countless links to work on Behance.net I decided to see what all the fuss was about. After recieving my invitation I had to create a few projects to go in my portfolio.
Sadly I have only had a handful of ‘appreciations’ and most of them are from Uni friends.
I’m starting to get the feel it is just a place for creatives to try and grab some free compliments, showing off their best work. Maybe I’m just bitter. I’d like to hear from anyone who has had any real help or seen any benefit from using Behance.
Can’t wait for the new HypeForType site to launch.
They create some quality typefaces, at very reasonable prices! I know i’ll be making a purchase soon.
If you just can’t wait too, here is a countdown till when it opens…..

Since handing in my final lot of work, it seems my focus has turned to getting me ready for the ‘real’ world.
This mostly includes updating my online presence….online portfolio, twitter, behance, QBN…
I also need to focus my attention to print based needs such as CVs and mailers, however I have noticed I am finding it much easier to put effort into my online chores opposed to my print chores. Is this a sign of designers becoming primarily based online?
Anyways, I must finish my CV!
